Mud Pie
Oh my! Jeremy and I made this for my birthday cake because I wanted an ice cream cake. I got this recipe from my Aunt Linda and if anyone knows her you know she has seriously good dessert recipes!
Ingredients:
26 oreos, crushed (I used my food processor and it was so much faster)
1/3 cup btter, softened
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream mealted to spreadable consistency (or use your favorite ice cream--we used mint chocolate chip)
1 large jar of chocolate hot fudge topping (about 16 oz)
1 LARGE tub of cool whip
6-8 more oreos
Directions:
Mix crushed oreos and softened butter. Press into bottom of 9x13 pan. Set in freexer for at least 10 min. Pour softened ice cream over the top of oreos. Freexe for at least 45 minutes. Heat chocolate topping slightly. Pour over the ice cream and spread evenly. Spread large tub of cool whip over all. Sprinkle with extra oreo crumbs. Freeze.
My tips:
the longer you freeze between layers the easier to make. Don't overheat the hot fudge or it will melt the icecream layer too much and take longer to refreeze- just melt it to a spreadable consistency. Make sure you thaw your cool whip first (takes a few hours in the fridge). Make it your own! Use your favorite ice cream, top with oreos and sprinkles for birthdays, drizzle caramel sauce on top...whatever you want!! I was even thinking about doing a caramel layer in the middle rather than hot fudge. Enjoy!
